Nord vs. Nord 2
The big question here is, Is the Nord 2 better the Nord?
Judging from what the new Smok Nord 2 has to offer, we can safely assume that Smok is aiming to take over the vape community with this pod kit. Every aspect of the Smok Nord 2 has been updated compared to the original Smok Nord.
What's new in the Smok Nord 2?
The new key features found in the Smok Nord 2 is the new 0.69” OLED display and the adjustable wattage feature. Another cool feature with the OLED display is the ability to display battery charging status with a time frame of how long until the battery is fully charged.
Battery Pack & Charging
Battery capacity has increased significantly to 1500 mAh from 1100 mAh, which is a 26% increase. Now this is something to really talk about. Considering that the physical size has only increased by roughly 3%, this is a huge battery that Smok has been able to fit in.
We would like to also note a factor that often gets under looked, which is the charging feature. Smok’s new Nord 2 can now charge a lot quicker than the original Nord Pod kit. Smok boasts a charging current at a maximum of 1.2A compared to the Nord’s 370mA, which equates to over 3 times the charging speed. So you’re getting a bigger battery that can charge a lot quicker as well. An all day vape without waiting all day to charge! A bit of an exaggeration, but you know what we mean
As to be expected the Smok Nord 2 has got a power upgrade and a big one to add. The Nord 2 can power up to 40 watts compared to its predecessor’s measly 15 watts. Such a wide vape range allows the Nord 2 to cater for all types of vapers, whether you like a cool vape or a warm vape, it doesn’t matter, the Nord 2 can do it for you. Another factor to point out is that having the adjustable power helps extend your battery life while giving you a consistent vaping experience as well. The reason behind this is that with the adjustable wattage, it means that you are not running your battery on maximum output all the time. This is a good thing because the vape pod produces less heat which means more battery life and we know, too much heat is everyone’s enemy.
Versatile Coil Options & New Pods
The Nord 2 comes with two pods in the kit, one pod that’s compatible with Nord Coils and the other compatible with RPM coils. If you used the original Nord, then you’ll know about the leaking problems that came with it. Smok has re-engineered these new pods for the Nord 2 which have larger rubber plugs to help prevent any the annoying pocket/bag leak. Change in dimensions on the new Nord 2 also means that you have a larger juice capacity for the pod system, with the ability to hold up to 4.5ml of e-liquid, meaning less filling.
As mentioned earlier, the Nord 2 comes with two pods, which are compatible with two of Smok’s proprietary coils. What’s great about this is that it opens up a wide range of coil options for you. Across the Nord and RPM coils, there are collectively 12 coils you can choose from. Among the 12 coil choices, it includes a RBA option (sold separately) as well. RBA stands for Re-Buildable Atomiser, where you can make your own coils to use. This a very cost effective way to vape, as $25 of rebuildable supplies can last 6 months or more.
As per Smok tradition, you have colour choices. Currently Smok has nine colour choices to choose from. We have no doubt that later in the year, Smok will release more colours to choose from, but for the time being, check out these awesome colour options from Smok for the Nord 2.
Is The Nord 2 Better Than Its Predecessor?
On paper, yes, the Nord 2 is much better. To use the Nord 2 in person, HELL YES IT'S BETTER! Compared to the original Smok Nord, the new Smok Nord 2 is a game changer. If you loved the original Nord, you will love the Nord 2 even more. Smok has really lifted their game with this pod kit. The functionality and usability of the Nord 2 is great. Easy to use and gives great flavour and vapour. While the Nord 2 is marginally bigger compared to the Nord, we don’t see this to be a huge problem. Considering the new features you’re getting on top of the further upgrades Smok has done to the Nord 2, it’s a clear winner and a must have vape for 2020.
Nord 2 vs. RPM40
Lets face it, Smok has a lot of pod kits. It can get really confusing cause they all have different names but it feels like they’re not so different. Here, we’re going to look at the RPM40 in comparison to the Nord 2, as we feel like this is the most similar in the Smok family.
What’s the Difference between the Smok Nord 2 and RPM40?
Now, on paper, there isn’t much difference between the RPM40 and Nord 2, they have the same battery capacity, coil compatibility, power output and juice capacity(somewhat). But the main thing we should take note of is the dimensions and weight. The RPM40 is roughly 14% larger compared to the Nord 2 and roughly 20% heavier. The weight can be a positive or a negative, this is more of a subject thing, some people light a weighted unit, whereas some people don’t. In terms of physical parameters, again, this is very subjective, it’s whatever feels more comfortable in your hand.
While these two vape pod kits have a lot of similarities, there is one thing that we feel is very different. That’s the mouthpiece. If we compare the mouthpiece on the Nord 2 versus the RPM40, the Nord 2 has a much more comfortable mouthpiece. It's a lot more curved to your mouth and a bit more narrow compared to the RPM40. Other than that, we don’t feel like there is much of a difference between the two vape pod kits.
The Smok Nord 2 is an absolutely a must have in your daily vape arsenal. Functionality, form factor, flavour and vapour, you get it all in this one device. If you’re considering getting into vaping or simply an upgrade, don’t look past the Nord 2. The Smok Nord 2 will truly amaze you.
